Ask any surfer to name their dream destinations and Fiji will be near the top of the list. Warm water, long reef breaks and swell that shows up with impressive consistency.

What surprises most people is how easy it all is from Plantation Island Resort. Seven of Fiji’s best breaks sit within a short longboat ride of the island, including the world-famous Cloudbreak. And while the surfers chase waves, the rest of the family has an entire island resort to enjoy.

Why Fiji Is One of the World’s Best Surf Destinations

Fiji has held a place on the world surfing map for decades. Here’s what keeps surfers coming back.

Warm Water, Consistent Swell and Uncrowded Line-Ups

The water here sits in the mid to high twenties all year round. Leave the wetsuit at home, boardshorts and a rashie will do.

Swell rolls in from the Southern Ocean with real consistency, especially between May and October. Even outside those months, the waves in Fiji rarely goes flat.

Then there’s the space. Surf spots around the Mamanuca Islands are famously uncrowded. On a good day, you might share a world-class wave with only a handful of other surfers.

Cloudbreak and the WSL Fiji Pro: Surfing’s World Stage

Cloudbreak needs little introduction. This powerful left-hand reef break is regularly rated among the best waves on the planet.

The world’s top surfers agree. The WSL Fiji Pro returns to Cloudbreak, from 25 August to 4 September 2026, for the final of the Championship Tour.

Staying at Plantation Island Resort puts you close to the action, with the break only a short boat ride away.
